Actress Shazahn Padamsee has released her debut single, ‘Raatan Kaaliyan’, marking her first step into music after a career spent largely in front of the camera. The song, which came out on August 19, is her first credit as a singer and songwriter.
Speaking about the release, Shazahn said music has always been a very personal form of expression for her, which made creating ‘Raatan Kaaliyan’ feel especially meaningful. She said the song comes from an honest place and reflects how her own understanding of love has evolved.
She added that until now she had largely been part of other people’s stories, but this song was different, as it was her own story told from the heart. She said that for the first time she was not just the voice or performer but the scriptwriter of her own journey, putting her life and experiences into music.
The song traces an emotional journey through love, moving from seeking reassurance and emotional dependence towards a deeper and more secure understanding of what love means. At its core, the track explores the idea that love is not about filling a void but about finding a connection that allows space to be one’s most authentic self.
According to the actress, her musical journey is not a sudden pivot but one rooted in years of preparation. She has reportedly been working on music quietly for close to a decade, building a bank of unreleased material alongside her acting career. Her mother, veteran pop singer Sharon Prabhakar, has been a steady presence through that process, and Shazahn has described her as more of an anchor than an adviser.
Bollywood’s leading music PR expert Dale Bhagwagar has praised the debut, saying, “The number stands out for its honesty,” adding that “Shazahn’s foray into singing feels natural and heartfelt rather than a passing experiment.”
Shazahn made her film debut in 2009 with ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’ and went on to appear in films including ‘Housefull 2’, ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ and ‘Solid Patels’. She is the daughter of veteran actor Alyque Padamsee and Sharon Prabhakar.
